Moon Collision with Titan May Explain Saturn’s Tilt and Rings, Study Suggests

A new study suggests that a collision between a moon and Titan, Saturn’s largest moon, may explain Saturn’s tilt, the rapid expansion of Titan’s orbit, and the formation of the planet’s rings.

By analyzing data from the Cassini spacecraft and conducting computer simulations, scientists concluded that debris from these collisions may have formed Saturn’s current rings around 100 million years ago.

NASA’s Dragonfly mission, scheduled to reach Titan in 2034, could provide additional information to confirm or challenge this theory.
